DART Magazine is looking for 5 talented writers in art to join EDITORIAL 26-27
Overview
We're building our next EDITORIAL cohort — five writers who will shape DART's coverage, voice, vision, over the coming year. Cohort members work closely with Editor-in-Cheif(EIC) across the full 2026–27.
In this posistion, you will be able to conduct reserch, interview, review focused on the topics you prefered, and get conpensated.
Scope of Work
For EDITORIAL 26-27, DART Magazine is aiming to produce 10-12 editorials written by EDI team, among 5 people, so each writer will procudce 2-3 peices across the span of 12 months.
Your focus of each peice will be determined though a selection process: first round, you will pitch 3 artists, organization, or research topic to EIC, you will go through a discussion, and one of these will be selected by EIC to proceed as your focus of the peice. If no choice is made, EIC reserve the right to restart the picth, which is the second round, you are going to pitch 3 different ones. If no choice is made from 2 rounds, your focus of peice will be determined by your discussion with EIC.
If choice is made in the first round, you will proceed to conduct the reserch, interview, review on the topic/artist(s).
Deliverables
Either your peice is about an artist(review, interview), or an org or institue in art scene(review, interview, critique), or an research on a certain event or patterns related to art. The peice can be jornalism oriented depends on topic.
In all of the peices you produce in 12 months cycle, only one can be Q&A interview format.
Each peice, you will have 1 to 1.5 months to work on, from pitch to finalized. Some research can take longer time.
Who we are looking for…
Art background: coursework, studio practice, art history, or curatorial experience (formal or self-taught), a passion for comtemporary art.
Critical thinking: can look past surface aesthetics and dig into what a work is actually doing, the ability to critique and sympathize.
Clear, engaging writing: makes criticism readable without dumbing it down. Bold, acute ideas. Professional level in writing in English.
Curiosity about people: asks good questions, listens well, genuinely interested in artists' processes
Independent and reliable: can carry a piece from pitch to deadline with minimal hand-holding. Open communication.
Cultural Literacy: the ability to understand another culture as a visitor, and research on it. (bilingual or multi-cultural background writers are especially welcomed)
Perfered conditions(not required)
Based in Caliornia.
Multi-cultural background.
A becholar degree related to art, architecture, history, or anthropology.
Experience in editorials.

Compensation
40$ per peice
If a topic/artist is assigned to you to write/profile, compensation will be doubled.

DART Magazine is an independent art magazine of storytelling from Davis, California.
Though entirely student-run, DART has already featured over 40 artists from across North America, Asia, and Europe. In Editorial section, DART profiled and interviewed creatives and organizations reported by Vogue, ELLE, Forbes, METAL Magazine, and ARTJOBS. This year June, DART published its debute print issue: Visitor.
